Daily Wisdom Devotion: Turning around Your Circumstances
Gen 28:20, Deut. 23:23, Judges 11:30, 1 Samuel 1:11, Psalm 56:12, Proverbs 7:14, Jonah 2:9, Acts 18:18
Men and brethren, if you intend to have turn around of your circumstances, you must examine the vow you made in the past, the one you are making today and the future. Hear me, a vow is a voluntary offering to God demanding that your life status be changed. What is a vow? A vow can be defined as an earnest promise or pledge that binds one to perform in a certain manner. It is giving an assignment to your offerings and sending it as dove to reach heaven. The term appears many places in the Bible to refer to a promise or a pledge, and the emphasis is that such promises are binding. “You shall be careful to perform what goes out from your lips, just as you have voluntarily vowed to the Lord your God, what you have promised” (Deuteronomy 23:23). That means that when we give our word to do something, we are obligated to do it! There are also negative vow working against people. Today, I command a stop to every negative vow working against you.
It is clear from the Scripture above that a vow (promise) of any kind is not to be taken lightly. Once someone has given his or her word, it becomes a binding contract. There are many examples in Scripture of people making vows—Jephthah (Judges 11:30), Hannah (1 Samuel 1:11), David (Psalm 56:12), Solomon (Proverbs 7:14), Jonah (Jonah 2:9), and the apostle Paul (Acts 18:18). People generally don’t make vows unless they are in trouble and they are backed into a corner. And Jacob vowed a vow. Gen 28:20. “And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on, So that I come again to my father’s house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God: And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee” (Genesis 28:20-22). Jacob was obviously aware that his survival was at stake. Where would he get food and water? How could he be protected from the dangers he faced? He was molested by his circumstances; he laboured like an Elephant with the result of grasshopper (14 years hard labour to marry a wife of his choice). But he came to a point of realization and made a vow to God that if God would get him where he was going and back, he would give a tenth of everything he owned.
Boy oh boy, your enemy’s threat to you is an empty threat if you know the mystery and power of vow. The yoke of stagnation and limitation placed upon you by the enemy can be broken, and your tenancy in that prison house of frustration without breakthrough shall be terminated; you can vow your destiny out into fruitfulness. This is what this commission sees God do with you this season. The evil network against you shall be frustrated, you are bouncing back.
Hannah had a choice to conclude that God was behind her problem, she had a choice to allow herself to be constantly mocked by her enemy. She vowed that if He gave her a son, she would give him to God for His service. “And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the LORD and wept in anguish. Then she made a vow and said, “O LORD of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of your maidservant and remember me, and not forget your maidservant, but will give your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.” (I Samuel 1:10-11). But the truth remains that only you can decide what your problems will do for you. Your problem can be your wings that will cause you to fly through the world. Your problem can cause God to step into your situation and cause miracles to happen; as it was in the case of Hannah. In this realm of prayer, you are asking God in assurance, let my vow be my eloquence, let my vow be my oratory, let my vow cement my miracles. Therefore, anytime the enemy provokes you and demand if you are part of the covenant, remind him that you have a vow before God. May God honour you
In verses 19-20 of 1 Samuel Chapter One, God hears Hanna and gives her desire to her: “And Elkanah knew Hannah his wife, and the LORD remembered her. So it came to pass in the process of time that Hanna conceived and bore a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, “Because I have asked for him from the LORD.” God had fulfilled His part of the agreement, and now it was Hanna’s responsibility to keep her promise. Notice how completely she holds up her end of the bargain:
“Now when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bulls, one ephah of flour, and a skin of wine, and brought him to the house of the LORD in Shiloh. And the child was young. Then they slaughtered a bull, and brought the child to Eli. And she said, “O my lord, as your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood by you here, praying to the LORD. For this child I prayed; and the LORD has granted me my petition which I asked of Him: Therefore I also have lent him to the LORD; as long as he lives he shall be lent to the LORD.” So they worshipped the LORD there” I Sam 1: 24-28.
Hanna’s example shows how a proper vow works. She intelligently thought it through, made it solemnly and humbly, and kept it completely. God not only respected her vow and fulfilled it, but He also greatly used the product, Samuel the prophet! Notice, how the process caused Hanna to thank and glorify God and built humble and righteous character in her (2 Samuel 2:1-10).
Many people come to us and promise God many things if He grants them a miracle, but few people came back to appreciate God and fulfill their vow. It is a sin and may lead to another curse if we vow to God and fail to fulfill it Deuteronomy 23:21-23, Numbers 30:2. A vow paid is a seed on assignment, Psalm 76:11. If you want to experience financial increase, learn to vow and also learn to fulfill your vow Psalm 61:8, Psalm 116:14-19. There is no prosperity without a seed. God cannot multiply empty hands. Remember that your investment determines your harvest. You can turn your seed to become your vow and trust God for outstanding results.
God’s Word says that everyone will be accountable for his or her words and actions on the Day of Judgment. “I tell you that every careless word [broken promise] that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the Day of Judgment” (Matthew 12:36). So, before agreeing to any terms, it is assumed that those making promises have carefully considered all consequences associated with that commitment. Knowing that a commitment is a vow. Making a vow is serious. Fulfilling your part of the vow is critical. We know that Absalom, King David’s son, made a vow and broke it (2 Samuel 15:7-8). Absalom’s life was restored as a result of the vow, but God ended up taking his life because he broke it. God never forgets vows.
We are told, “Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High: And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me” (Psalm 50:14-15). Likewise, we are taught, “I will go into thy house with burnt offerings: I will pay thee my vows, Which my lips have uttered, and my mouth hath spoken, when I was in trouble” (Psalm 66:13-14). But when you find yourself very reluctant to do something ask yourself if you ever made a promise to yourself that stands in the way of what you are trying to do, because there are people who had made vows and never remembered and it is working against their destiny. Think, write down and decree “I hereby release myself from my sacred vow that I would never get married..” or whatever the vow was. You made the vow and you can release yourself from it. Say it three times then burn the piece of paper in a little ceremony. You will find a sense of inner release and normality inside yourself.
The Devil can also make people very prosperous, famous, wealthy and powerful – but always at the cost of their souls, which is why Jesus said: Matthew 16:26 “For what is a man profited if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” Therefore, People with strong desires may make a bargain with the Devil in order to get what they want. They may well get what they want but the long-term price will be awful. Sometimes the deal will be written in a drop of blood on a piece of paper.
When such a person becomes a Christian the deal may be forgotten but strange things will happen in their life as the Devil exacts revenge for the broken promise. The person may even need deliverance and much prayer. The key to deliverance is a seven step process:
Number One: Renounce the Devil and all his works.
Number Two: Claim the blood of Jesus Christ and God’s cleansing.
Number Three: Tell the Devil he no longer has any power or right over you because you are no longer in his kingdom of darkness and rebuke him.
Number Four: Assert that you now belong to God alone.
Number Five: Claim the protecting power of God. Put on the armour of God.
Number Six: Be filled with the Spirit and spend much time in prayer.
Number Seven: Destroy all artefacts associated with the pact or with the devil.
Finally, I urge you to consider whether or not there are vows which you ought to make: Vows which are based upon your gratitude toward God and your desire to worship and serve Him, Vows which are dependent upon God to enable you to perform, Vows which you will, by God’s grace, keep. The first of such vow is a decision, a commitment to trust in Jesus Christ for eternal salvation, and to become His disciple. May God touch your heart so that you will make and keep this and other vows, to His glory and for your good. I encourage you to make a vow as God speaks to you, and then get ready to see His power unleashed in your life in an unprecedented way. I pray that every challenge that you are facing shall respond to your vow and fulfilment. Let God answer and let there be a turnaround to your favour.

Concluding Prayer of Turning around Your Circumstances: Awesomely awesome God, every vow working against my destiny, my career, my marriage, and my dream be dismantled. Every demonic restriction and limitation orchestrated by the vow I made in the past is now annulled. I release the spirit of confusion to every arrangement of darkness seeking my destiny. Let every power or vow suppressing the elevation of God in my life be disgraced. As from today I refuse to follow every pattern of evil marriage, family destruction, every trace of infirmity and I refuse to be diverted from my path of blessing and promotion and lifting in Jesus’ powerful name I pray, Amen.
