Daily Wisdom Devotion: The Power of Testimony
Luke 21:12-13, Psalm 40:10, Number 13: 25 – 33, Heb 3:19, Romans 4:19-21, Acts 4:33, Acts 14:3, Rev 12:11
Men and brethren, testimony is giving evidence to the world, the faithfulness of God in our fears, trials and temptations. Every covenant God made is kept. Every promise or foretelling has or will come true. Testimony after testimony of God’s faithfulness is certainly found throughout the Bible and is still given in testimonies by people today. The bible says ‘but you shall be tested, tried and afflicted. The good news is that verse 13 says, it shall turn to your testimony. Luke 21:12-13. Has God been faithful to you? This commission would love to hear your stories of God’s faithfulness. We encourage you to follow the Psalmist’s example and not conceal, but declare and sing of God’s faithfulness as the following verses challenge us: In Psalm 40:10, the scripture says “I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy loving-kindness and thy truth from the great congregation.” As you testify, the Lord shall grant you another testimony that will dazzle your mockers.
Sometimes when we go through life of Luke 21 verse 12, and we are troubled, frustrated, and unhappy about our personal situation, please remember that is the time, we need to testify. It’s an opportunity for testimony. Testimony should not always be when we have taken the land, or get that enemy destroyed or get that want but know-so that it is done.
Most time, people may not know what you are going through, you might be called all sort of names, you might be treated in a bad way, you must not surrender but keep testifying, and that is what would make you to be an overcomer. Some people started from life- luke 21 verse 12, just like the children of Israel, in between their own verse 12 & 13, they had great challenges, which should have made them to testify of the goodness of God, but they blew it up by grumbling and complaining against Moses and God. 12 men were sent to explore the land, 10 had a different testimony from the other two. Numbers 13:25-33. The journey that should have been 40 days, out of ignorance they personally extended it to 40 years Heb 3:19. May you not complicate your life by murmuring and may God grant you a miracle by your testimony,
The power of testimony is not a denial of facts but a believer and assurance that the situation under God is changed. Moreover, verse 12 & 13, may mean different things to everybody. Everybody’s case is different, between verse 12 & 13 of some other people, like Abraham; was 25 years of waiting for a promise of Isaac , Elizabeth and her husband ministered unto the Lord without a child until Old age before God visited them with John, for some; it could be few days or months. No matter how long you have waited, be rest assured that God will visit you. I declare, this season is your season of restoration and visitation.
Listen to what the bible says about Abraham ‘He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was as good as dead (since he was about a hundred years old), or when he considered the barrenness of Sarah’s womb. No distrust made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised.’ Romans 4:19-21. We complain, murmur, grumble, and sometimes threatened God and by so doing prolong our stay in verse 12, but praise, worship, testifying, rejoicing speed us towards verse 13; but if you know how to testify in your fear, trial and temptation, then you would have a big Testimony. I declare, you shall testify.
Testimony is not only, I bought a new car or I have a new job or a new birth and many more. Ofcourse, we can celebrate these achievements; but your testimony is more to what you say when you are in the midst of your challenges, like the three Hebrew children going into the furnace, like Daniel in the lions den, Job, Joseph ,Paul and Silas, and many more. Their testimony was not what they said after the challenges; rather, it was what they said while they were in that situation. For those that feel like they are failures, or they are about to fail, they must testify.’ I am more that a conqueror ‘. However, believers should remember that, the bible says ‘you shall have whatever you say’. Not what you say, after your challenges, but rather what you say during your challenges. Like Abraham, who was found faithful in the midst of his challenges, and God called him righteous while he had no physical manifestation of Isaac – the promise by God.
Men and brethren, your personal security and happiness depend upon the strength of your testimony, for it will guide your actions in times of trial or uncertainty. The ability to give a strong testimony guarantees peace, comfort, and assurance. It produces the conviction that as the teachings of bible are consistently obeyed, life will be beautiful, the future will be secure, and there will be capacity to overcome the challenges that cross our path. We must realise that a testimony grows from understanding truth, refined from prayer and the pondering of the word of God. It is nurtured by living those truths in faith and the secure confidence that the promised results will be obtained Acts 4:33, Acts 14:3.
The ability to give a strong testimony has sustained prophets throughout the ages and fortified them to act with courage and determination in times of difficulty. A powerful testimony can do the same for you. As you fortify your own personal testimony, you will have power to make correct choices so that you can stand unwaveringly against the pressures of an increasingly cruel world Psalm 81:10. You must evaluate your personal life. How strong is your own testimony? Is it truly a sustaining power in your life, or is it more a hope that what you have learned is true? Is it more than an unclear belief that worthwhile concepts and patterns of life seem to be reasonable and logical? Does your testimony guide you to correct decisions? If an honest assessment of your own testimony affirms and confirms that it is not as strong as it should be, how can it be strengthened? Luke 21:15, Ephesians 4:29.
Your testimony will be fortified as you exercise faith in Jesus Christ, in His teachings, and in His limitless power to accomplish what He has promised. True faith has enormous power, but there are principles that must be followed to unleash that power. Faith is things which are hoped for and not seen; wherefore, dispute not because ye see not, for ye receive no witness until after the trial of your faith. Heb11:1. That means you must practice the truth or principle you have faith in. As you live it consistently, there will come a witness of its deliverance through the power of the Holy Ghost, John 15:26. It is often a feeling of peace. It could be a stirring within you. It might be evidenced by opening doors to other truths. As you patiently look for a confirmation, it will come Luke 1:45. A powerful testimony is created from moments of prayer and pondering on the word of God as you recognize the voice from the Holy Ghost that will accompany such effort. Humble, trusting prayer brings consolation, solace, comfort, direction, and peace the unbelievers can never know Romans 1:16.
From time to time the Lord will want you to carry on that you trust him before you receive a confirming answer. His answer generally comes as packets of help. As each piece is followed in faith, it will unite with others to give you the whole answer. This pattern requires the exercise of faith. While sometimes very hard, it results in significant personal growth. At times the Lord will give you an answer before you ask. The bible tells us, that we overcame the enemy by the blood of Jesus & the word of our testimony Revelation 12:11. Therefore, I declare you, a candidate and partakers of testimonies that will daze your friends and mesmerized your enemies. As we wait on the Lord for future direction, we have no doubt that we can trust in our faithful God. We can praise God for His providential hand of leading in the past; We can look forward in faith to what He will do in the future; but we must concentrate on keeping His commandments consistently today!
