Daily Wisdom Devotion: Staying focused
Gen 13:14-15, Matthew 14:28-30, Habakkuk 2:2-3, Proverbs 21:5, Isaiah 32:8, Proverbs 24:27, Luke 14:28, Gen 13:9, Heb 11:1,
Men and brethren, a broken focus is the beginning of purpose and destiny accidents. One of the major foundations for greatness, achievement and success in life is consistency. You must stay focused on your goals and dreams if you must be crowned in life. God placed emphasis on consistency when he told Abraham to look. “Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward: For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.” Genesis 13:14-15. Consistency in doing what is right continuously. Consistency that is devoid of Lot because Lot stood as a limiter, a distraction to Abraham’s purpose; a distraction to Abrahams fulfilling his destiny and a distraction to Abrahams possessing his possessions. Therefore, How can you Stay Focused on Your Goals?
Focus is what keeps us on track when we are trying to reach our goals. If you think of a hunter as he aims at a target, it is essential that the hunter has focus in order to hit the target. Likewise, when a person wants to create something in their life, they must remain focus in order to achieve the goal.
Right where you are, there are many reasons why a person loses focus while pursuing their goals. The constant distractions in today’s world mean that maintaining focus can be very difficult. Distraction of work, home, friends, socializing, events and everything else constantly compete for our attention and dedicated time. It takes time to stay focused on achieving our goals and it’s so easy to fail in our attempt to maintain enough momentum, desire, energy and persistence needed to achieve our goals. As a result we often give up and think our goal is unachievable.
Another reason why we might lose focus in pursuing our goals is that we may talk ourselves out of pursuing our dreams. When we first begin pursuing our goals, we may be motivated by the fact that we are improving our lives and achieving our wishes and dreams. Shortly after starting the process of taking action towards achieving our goals, we can often begin to question the plausibility of achieving what we want. As soon as we start questioning our ability, we start to loose focus. Like Peter, he wanted to walk upon the sea like Jesus, and then he started to sink when his senses started to function outside the Faith territory. Peter was willing to put it all on the line. He and the other disciples had been straining against the waves and wind all night long when Jesus appeared to them, walking on the water. Wanting to prove his courage to Jesus, he made an amazing statement: “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water” (Matthew 14:28). These were rough seas, and Peter was willing to literally step onto them because He was looking at Jesus. That gave him confidence and courage.
It went well for awhile until Peter started to sink. And why did he sink? Because he took his eyes off Jesus and put them on other things. The Bible tells us, “When he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid” (verse 30). Circumstances can be frightening. When your boss calls you in and tells you the company has to downsize and they are letting you go, when the doctor calls you with the test results that are not good, when you open that letter from an attorney that says you are being sued, it can scare you. It can devastate you. And it can cause you to take your eyes off Jesus. Where fear reigns, faith is driven away. But where faith reigns, fear has no place. Faith and fear don’t mix. As you bring in faith, fear will walk out the back door. But if you invite fear as a resident in your life, then you will drive faith away.
Peter had faith. He had his eyes on Jesus. He was doing the impossible. But then he started to sink, because he took his eyes off Jesus. In his case, he looked at the wind. In our case, it might be something else. But when we forget God, we will start to sink. So what can we do to ensure we maintain the focus we need to achieve our goals? Here are some tips that will help us stay focused.
Number One: Write our goals down. Put your goals, reasons, objectives and beliefs in writing. When they are in writing it makes them more real and they can be reviewed and used as a constant source of encouragement. Eventually your goals will become branded in your mind. Habakkuk 2:2-3, Proverbs 21:5, Isaiah 32:8
Number Two: Beware of Negative Confessions. Season of Confrontation for the last two days devotion have dealt with this area.
Number Three: Plan your action. Build your plan for reaching your goal. Your plan becomes your road map and helps you determine the best course to follow. Proverbs 24:27, Luke 14:28
Number Four: Minimize Distractions. Get rid of as much temptation as possible that deviates from your focus on your goal. Abraham got rid of a Lot. “Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left” Genesis 13:9 If your goal is to loose weight, throw away all takeaway and delivery food menus that are delivered cheaply to you. If your goal is to save money and reduce money spent on non necessities, unsubscribe from any online shopping, gaming, promotional newsletters, email or text alerts. If for example your goal is to exercise more and you have identified watching TV as a distraction, don’t turn on the TV until you have achieved the tasks relating to your goal. Use every method you can think of to remove distractions from your situation and it will certainly help your focus.
Number Five: Use the Power of Visualization. To have something to focus on we must have a strong visual picture of our target so we can maintain focus on the end result. The more you bring what it is you wish to obtain to the forefront of your mind, the more focus you can give to it. The power of visualization is the Power of Faith Hebrews 11:1
Number Six: Measure Your Progress. You can’t control your progress unless you can analyze your progress. Create a system and timetable to measure your progress. Record your daily progress. This can tell us if we are on track or if we need to make adjustments to either our plan or activities. You need to measure your progress on a regular basis as it gives you some control.
Number Seven: Prioritize your Goal. Focus on a few goals at one time. Try not to overburden yourself as it will limit your chance of achieving your goal and de-motivate you. Concentrate on the important ones first, achieve them and then you can look at addressing the other goals.
Number Eight: Work your Goals into your Daily Plan. Do something towards achieving your goals everyday. The best way to achieve your goals and maintain your focus is to do something that will make it happen each and every day. Even if its only 15 minutes each day, it is better than not doing any goal related activity at all. Give your goal daily attention and you’ll remain more focused and at a better chance of achieving your goal.
Number Nine: Use the Power of Positive Affirmations. Keep telling yourself in the present tense and in a positive statement of what you want to achieve. When someone’s goal is to climb a mountain, his/her affirmation will detail being at the top of the mountain, not on getting from the bottom to the top. Positive affirmation can help you maintain focus and help you believe in yourself and your ability to obtain your goal.
Number Ten: Celebrate your Milestones. Mark your successes and acknowledge your progress towards your desired goal. Set milestones and as you achieve them reward yourself. This will motivate you and make you see your milestone in a very positive way.
Finally, you must always remember that there is no quick fix to achieving your goals. It requires your motivation, effort, research and time. However our goals are far more attainable when you stay focused on them.

Lord, Peter walked on just one Word, COME and as long as he held on to the SPOKEN WORD and kept his eyes on the LIVING WORD, he could experience the MANIFESTATION OF THE WORD.
