1 Corinthians 2:9, Mark 12:29-30, Deuteronomy 7:9-10, Romans 8:28, Isaiah 1:18, Hebrews 10:16, Isaiah 63:7, Isaiah. 55:8
Men and brethren, everyone who loves God shall become a candidate of heaven’s agenda. It does not matter your current situation, your case may look similar to that of Mary and Martha when they lost their only brother; but when Jesus arrived, even though he was late to the burial ceremony, the impossible became possible. Therefore, loving God is an express way to your deliverance and promotion in life. Our prayer today is that this Awesome God will grant you a revelational knowledge, an insightful knowledge and a prophetic knowledge of the love of God that will change your life and change your destiny.
Love is measured by sacrifice. Do you love God? Because any man that loves God is dangerous for any man to disturb. That you love God does not separate you from the troubles of life. Why? Life without problem is useless because the heaviest load to carry through life is to carry nothing. I don’t know what you are going through; it is not what happened to you that matters but what happens in you because of what happened to you. The scripture says “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” I Corinthians 2:9. The greatest you can do is to love this awesomely awesome God and love him unconditionally and love Him without any reservation.
There are few things so universal and yet so challenging. Love for God. “The most important commandment,” says Jesus (Mark 12:29–30), and one that both the old and new covenants portray as necessary to enjoy God’s sustained favor. As Moses asserted, God “keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations,” but he “repays to their face those who hate him, by destroying them” Deuteronomy 7:9–10. Similarly, Paul declared that “all things work together for good” only for “those who love God . . . who are called according to his purpose” Romans 8:28.
Number One: Loving God with All Our Heart: The old covenant recognized that a spiritual relationship with God begins from within, with a proper disposition toward the savior, sovereign, and satisfier. From the heart “flow the springs of life” (Proverbs 4:23), and without one’s will, desires, passions, affections, perceptions, and thoughts rightly aligned, the life of love is impossible. Therefore Moses calls Israel to “know . . . in your heart” that God disciplines like a father his son. He urges God’s people to “lay it to heart” that there is no other God Deuteronomy 4:39–40) and to ensure that his words “be on your heart” (Deuteronomy 6:6), thus anticipating the miraculous heart-work that the new covenant would realize (Jeremiah 31:33).
Number Two: Loving God with All Our Soul: We are called to love God with all our soul. In the first five books of the Old Testament the “soul” refers to one’s whole being as a living person, which includes one’s “heart” but is so much more. For example, in Genesis 2:7 we are told that “God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living soul creature” Therefore, we are to love God with our passions, hungers, perceptions, and thoughts. But we are also to love him with how we talk, and what we do with our hands, and how we utilize our talents, and how we react to challenges –– our entire being is to display that we love God.
Number Three: Loving God with All Our Might: This means that the call to love God is not only with our physical muscle but with everything we have available for honoring God — which includes our spouse, our children, our house or dorm room, our pets and wardrobe and tools and cell phones and movies and music and computers and time. It is whole-hearted, Life-encompassing Allegiance to God. In 2 Kings 23:25 we are told that King Josiah “turned to God with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his might.” So if the word usually means “very,” what would it mean to love the Lᴏʀᴅ will all our “very-ness”? Interestingly, the Greek translation of this word is “power.” The Aramaic translation is “wealth.” Both of these may actually be pointing in the same direction, for the strength of a person is not simply who he is but what he has at his disposal.
There need to be an authentic love for God that starts with God-oriented affections, desires, and thoughts, that permeates our speaking and behavior, and then influences the way we spend our money and how we dress, and drive, and our forms of entertainment.
Here are four unique ways to watch how you love the Lord with your mind.
Number One: Reason: Isaiah 1:18 “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD:”
To reason is to think, understand and form judgments by a process of logic. I believe that part of loving God with all our mind is loving him logically. I must note though, that reason should never trump revelation. The mind is the learner not the leader. The heart is the leader. Many times the heart receives from the Lord first and the mind cannot make sense of it, at least initially. Eventually the mind catches up with what the heart received. When we prize reason over revelation we have a God made in our own image and likeness. Faith in many ways goes beyond reason. It looks to the impossible and trusts in the All-Knowing God. Yet reason is powerful. We can systematically and logically look at the ways God has intersected our lives and give Him praise.
Number Two: Knowledge: Hebrews 10:16 “This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.” To love God with all our mind involves taking time to fill our mind with God’s Word and to rightly agree with who He is. When we grow in truth we gain knowledge. When we come into agreement with God it awakens love in us. Love itself includes great depths of knowledge. Loving God is continually refueled when the mind encounters truth over and over. Knowing truth and loving God are deeply connected. Jesus is the Truth. As our mind grows in the knowledge of Jesus we are liberated to love Him more.
Number Three: Memory: Isaiah 63:7 “I will tell of the kindnesses of the LORD, the deeds for which he is to be praised, according to all the LORD has done for us.” The Bible is filled with commands to remember. Memories lead to gratefulness and worship. When we use our minds to remember His kindness, faithfulness, patience, peace etc. we build a foundation of faith, hope and love. We are loving God with our remembrance. For some, we cannot forget the negative events of the past because the past has a voice. We must triumph over it with truth. Don’t allow your past to freeze you but rather lead you into the depths of God’s love. Our thinking about the past can affect us positively by remembering the truth about God’s goodness toward us in forgiving, delivering and providing for us.
Number Four: Imagination: Psalm 8:3 “When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have ordained;” Isaiah. 55:8 “My thoughts are completely different from yours,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.” God has given the mind the power to imagine. Some call it dreaming big dreams. Some say get a “picture” of your future. While others say if you can see it, you can be it. Imagination sees, creates and thinks outside the box. In our imagination heavens thoughts can come to us and be captured. With our imagination we actually can extend our knowledge to explore the possibilities we have in God in all areas of our lives. This releases love which is anchored in faith.
Finally my brethren, we have the mind of Christ. Let’s love Him with it! Loving God is both the beginning and the end of a relationship with God. It is what it is to be a believer in God. It is what it means to be a Christian, to be a lover of God. It is the most defining attitude that we can express in explaining who we are. We are those who love the true and living God, the one true God who is not only the God and Father of the patriarchs, but who is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. So if someone were to ask, ‘What does it mean to be a believer? What does it mean to be a Christian? It means to be a lover of God. May the Love of God abide with you.
